Tracy Matheson is the founder of Project Beloved, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, advocating
and collaborating to change the conversation surrounding sexual assault while empowering survivors to
reclaim their voices. Her passion for advocacy was born from the life and loss of her daughter, Molly
Jane. In her daughter’s memory, Matheson founded Project Beloved and has since become a tireless
advocate for survivors, working to improve systems, advance legislation and create spaces where
survivors feel heard, supported and valued.
Matheson’s advocacy has helped drive legislative change in Texas, including the passage of Molly Jane’s
Law, which mandates the use of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program, or ViCAP and HB 4628,
which sets a framework and timelines for Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) hits.
Through Project Beloved, Matheson has also helped transform more than 130 sterile interview spaces
across the United States into comfortable, trauma-informed soft interview rooms for survivors of sexual
assault and domestic violence.
In recognition of her work, Matheson received the Ignite Award from the Conference on Crimes Against
Women in 2022 for her commitment to changing the landscape for survivors of sexual violence.
The luncheon is being held in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed each
October to raise awareness of domestic violence, honor survivors, remember those whose lives have been
lost and encourage communities to take a stand against violence.
